A read of the print editions of Wednesday's Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, New York Times, USA Today, Atlanta Journal Constitution & Daily Report (Ga. - carries Bloomberg) yielded the following stories about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 component companies and the Dow with stories about the Dow aggregated first and then items about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 companies presented alphabetically, followed by symbol and Tuesday's stock prices and related data.

Dow Jones Industrial Average: The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed Tuesday at 12,569.79 up 128.21 or 1.03% from Friday's close of 12,441.58. For the year the Dow is up 8.57%. WSJ pC1 "Stocks root for a Greek debt deal" by Jonathan Cheng says new hopes that European nations will reach a deal to avert a Greek debt default pushed global fin'l markets to a buoyand finish for May. Bonds of Greece and other peripheral European nations rose, as did the euro and stock markets across the region.

Fin Times p24 "Intel & Apple lead tech advance amid confidence for sector growth" by Telis Demos says hope for new avenues of growth in tech buoyed Wall St despite signs the broader economy was slowing further. Intel up 0.6% said it wold be promoting a line of chips designed to compete with Apple's iPad.

NYT pB11 "Shares rally on promise of new aid package for Greece" by Reuters says global stocks powered ahead and crude oil rose Tues on expectations that a second fin'l aid package wold be approved for Greece. Shares rose more than 1% in a late rally, after paring gains earlier after disappointing data on consumer confidence.

USA Today p4B "Stocks end May on upward note with gains on Greece" by Bloomberg says US stocks advanced Tues, trimming the biggest monthly drop since Aug for the S&P 500, amid speculation about additional aid for Greece.

As of the open of the market Wednesday, the current divisor for the Dow Jones Industrial Average found at page C4 of today's Wall St. Journal is 0.132129493. Wednesday's trailing P/E is 14.30 up from Tuesday's trailing P/E of 14.15 (year ago it was 14.57); Wednesday's P/E estimate is 12.54 unchanged from Tuesday's P/E estimate of 12.54 (year ago it was 12.62), and today's dividend yield is 2.37 dpwn from Tuesday's dividend yield of 2.40 (last year it was 2.76). The Dow's all-time high was 14,164.53 on Oct6 9, 2007. The 12 year low close for the Dow was on March 9, 2009 when it fell to 6,547.05.

Tuesday's Dow Jones Industrial Average closing numerator was 1,672.73 up 28.83 from Friday's closing numerator of 1,643.90. This is the sum of all 30 closing prices. A short cut to the Dow numerator is to multiply the closing Dow by the Divisor. Now, if you divide the Dow numerator increase for today by the divisor (0.132129493) you get the increase in today's Dow. A $1 change in the price of any DJIA stock = a 7.57 change in the average.

The average closing price (the closing numerator divided by 30) of Tuesday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $55.76 up 0.96 from Friday's average closing price of $54.80. The median closing price of Tuesday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $47.42 (AXP/JPM) up 0.46 from Friday's median closing price of $46.96. The lowest volume was 3M MMM $94. 38 +0.91 0.97% 2,770,167 NYSE and the highest volume was again Bank of America BAC $11.75 +0.06 0.51% 101,214,011 NYSE.

If Tuesday morning before the market opened you had purchased 100 shares of each of the Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 shares (assuming you could buy fractional shares and assuming no transaction costs) and sold at the close you would have made $2,883 ($167,273 - $164,390).

MarketWatch Tuesday 5/31/11 4:10 pm by Claudia Assis says US stocks on Tuesday extended their winning streak to a fourth consecutive session on optimism Greece may get additional aid, although a disappointing reading on consumer confidence and other weak economic data hampered the run. The Dow Jones Industrial Average ended the day up 128.21 points, or 1%, to 12,569.79. The Nasdaq Composite added 38.44, or 1.4%, to 2,835.30. The S&P 500 gained 14.10, or 1%, to 1,345.20 with all of its 10 sectors on the rise.
