Post No. 1,065 The following is brought to you by Intellivest Securities Research, Inc. Toward the end of this Blog is a list of the Dow 30 current CEOs, and a ranking of the Dow 30 components by market capitalization as of May 23, 2011 and Dow 30 components' SEC filings as of May 24, 2011.

A read of Monday's Barron's, Wall St. Journal, Financial Times, New York Times, Atlanta Journal Constitution & Daily Report (Georgia - carries Bloomberg) yielded the following stories about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 component companies and the Dow with stories about the Dow aggregated first and then items about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 companies presented alphabetically, followed by symbol and Friday's stock prices and related data.

Dow Jones Industrial AverageThe Dow Jones Industrial Average closed Friday at 11,951.91 down 172.45 or 1.42% from Thursday's close of 12,048.94. For the week the Dow was down 199.35 or 1.64% from last Friday's close of 12,151.26. For the year the Dow is up 3.23%. Of the 30 Dow components 3 gained and 27 declined. The biggest gainer dollar-wise and percentage-wise was Bank of America BAC $10.8 +0.15 1.41% 208,240,795 NYSE. The biggest decliner dollar-wise was Caterpillar CAT $96.79 -2.47 2.49% 9,553,605 NYSE and percentage-wise was Pfizer PFE $20.11 -0.64 3.08% 56,889,784 NYSE.

As of the open of the market Monday, the current divisor for the Dow Jones Industrial Average found at page C4 of Monday's Wall St. Journal is 0.132129493. Saturday's trailing P/E is 13.60 down from Friday's trailing P/E of 13.79 (year ago it was 14.85); today's P/E estimate is 12.01 down from Friday's P/E estimate of 12.40 (year ago it was 12.56), and Monday's dividend yield is 2.50 up from Friday's dividend yield of 2.46 (last year it was 2.71). The Dow's all-time high was 14,164.53 on Oct. 9, 2007. The 12 year low close for the Dow was on March 9, 2009 when it fell to 6,547.05.

Friday's Dow Jones Industrial Average closing numerator was 1,579.20 down 22.78 from Thursday's closing numerator of 1,601.98. This is the sum of all 30 closing prices. A short cut to the Dow numerator is to multiply the closing Dow by the Divisor. Now, if you divide the Dow numerator decrease for today by the divisor (0.132129493) you get the decrease in today's Dow. A $1 change in the price of any DJIA stock = a 7.57 change in the average.

The average closing price (the closing numerator divided by 30) of Friday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $52.64 down $0.90 from Thursday's average closing price of $53.54. The median closing price of Friday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $44.40 (AXP/JPM) down 0.25 from Thursday's median closing price of $44.65. The lowest volume was 3M MMM $90.73 -1.23 1.34% 2,702,713 NYSE and the highest volume was again Bank of America BAC $10.8 +0.15 1.41% 208,240,795 NYSE.

If Friday morning before the market opened you had purchased 100 shares of each of the Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 shares (assuming you could buy fractional shares and assuming no transaction costs) and sold at the close you would have lost $2,278 ($160,198 - $157,920).

MarketWatch Friday 6/10/11 4:12 pm by Laura Mandaro says US stocks tumbled Friday on worries about the global economy and a selloff in energy stocks, ensuring the sixth week of losses for the benchmark indexes. The Dow Jones Industrial Average ended down 172.45 points, or 1.4%, to 11,951.91, led by 3% drops in Pfizer Inc. and Travelers Co. shares. The S&P 500 lost 18.02 points, or 1.4%, to 1,270.98, with energy stocks off the most after oil prices fell nearly 3%. The Nasdaq Composite was down 41.14 points, or 1.5%, to 2,643.73. For the week, the Dow average has lost 1.6%, the S&P 500 has fallen 2.2%, and the Nasdaq Composite has fallen 3.3%. For the Dow and the S&P 500, it was the sixth straight week of losses.
