MarketWatch Thursday 8/25/11 4:08 pm by Kate Gibson says U.S. stocks ended lower on Thursday to snap a three-day winning run ahead of Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke's address the next morning. "He's going to do his best to stabilize fears and reassure investors there are additional policy tools that he has at his disposal, but the likelihood that something new is actually instituted is extremely low, I'd say less than 5%," said Robert Pavlik, chief market strategist at Banyan Partners LLC. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 170.89 points, or 1.5%, to 11,149.82. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index shed 18.33 points, or 1.6%, to 1,159.27.
