Post No. 1,191 The following is brought to you by Intellivest Securities Research, Inc. Toward the end of this Blog is a list of the Dow 30 current CEOs, and a ranking of the Dow 30 components by market capitalization and Dow 30 components' SEC filings in each case as of August 29, 2011.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed Tuesday at 11,559.95 up 20.7 or 0.18% from Monday's close of 11,539.25. Of the 30 Dow components 12 gained, Pfizer was unchanged and 17 declined. The biggest gainer dollar-wise and percentage-wise was Boeing BA $66.03 +1.43 2.21% 6,979,118 NYSE. The biggest decliner dollar-wise and percentage-wise was JPMorgan JPM $37.06 -0.58 1.54% 28,794,305 NYSE.
As of the open of the market Tuesday, the current divisor for the Dow Jones Industrial Average found at page C4 of Tuesday's Wall St. Journal is 0.132129493. Tuesday's trailing P/E ratio is 12.87 up from Monday's trailing P/E ratio of 12.59 (year ago it was 12.02); Tues's P/E estimate is 11.23 unchanged from Monday's P/E estimate of 11.23 (year ago it was 12.02), and Tuesday's dividend yield is 2.65 down from Monday's dividend yield of 2.71 (last year it was 2.81). The Dow's all-time high was 14,164.53 on Oct. 9, 2007. The 12 year low close for the Dow was on March 9, 2009 when it fell to 6,547.05.
Tuesday's Dow Jones Industrial Average closing numerator was 1,527.41 up 2.54 from Monday's closing numerator of 1,524.67. This is the sum of all 30 closing prices. The average closing price (the closing numerator divided by 30) of Tuesday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $50.91 up $0.09 from Monday's average closing price of $50.82. The median closing price of Tuesday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $42.86 (AXP/JPM) down $0.24 from Monday's median closing price of $43.10. The S&P 500 added 2.84 points, or 0.2%, to 1,212.92, led by the telecoms and natural-resource sectors. The Nasdaq Composite ended up 14 points, or 0.6%, to 2,576.11.
