Dow Jones Industrial Average: The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed Friday at 14,089.66 up 35.17 or 0.25% from Thursday's close of 14,054.49. For the week the Dow was up 89.09 or 0.64% from last Friday's close of 14,000.57.For the year the Dow is up 7.52%. Of the Dow components 16 gained, Hewlett-Packard was unchanged and 13 declined. The biggest gainer dollar-wise was IBM up $1.85 and percentage-wise was Walmart up 1.36%. The biggest decliner dollar-wise and percentage-wise was Caterpillar down $1.19 or 1.29%.

The Dow's all-time high was 14,164.53 on Oct. 9, 2007. The 12 year low close for the Dow was on March 9, 2009 when it fell to 6,547.05.
Friday's Dow Jones Industrial Average closing numerator was 1,834.70 up 2.58 from Thursday's closing numerator of 1,830.12. This is the sum of all 30 closing prices. A short cut to the Dow numerator is to multiply the closing Dow by the Divisor. Now, if you divide the Dow numerator change for today by the divisor (0.130216081) you get the change in today's Dow. A dollar increase or decrease in a Dow stock results in a $7.68 change in the Dow Index.
The average closing price (the closing numerator divided by 30) of Friday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $61.16 up16 cents from Thursday's average of $61.00. The median closing price of Friday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $54.40 (DIS/UNH) up 38 cents from Thursday's median closing price of $54.02. 2/28/13 Thursday 4:18 pm MarketWatch by Kate Gibson says US stocks on Thursday finished mildly lower after a last-minute retreat from gains that had the Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA-0.15% coming within 15 points of its all-time closing high. "We've had a great run here, so it's perfectly natural for a little selling to come in after such a move," said Alan Skrainka, chief investment officer at Cornerstone Wealth Management. "We have two enormous opposing forces. On the one hand we have deleveraging, which we saw in the GDP numbers with government spending down. Then we have enormous stimulus, and it's pretty clear which side is winning," he added.
