Toward the end of this Blog is a list of the Dow 30 current CEOs, and a ranking of the Dow 30 components by market capitalization as of April 1, 2013 and recent Dow 30 components' SEC filings as of April 1, 2013.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed Friday at 14,865.06 down 0.08 or 0.00% from Thursday's close of 14,865.14. Of the Dow components 11   gained and 19  declined. The biggest gainer dollar-wise     and percentage-wise was Home Depot up $1.69 or 2.35%. The biggest decliner dollar-wise was IBM down $1.85  and percentage-wise was Alcoa down 1.32%.

As of the open of the market on Friday the current divisor for the Dow Jones Industrial Average found at page C5 of today's Wall St. Journal is 0.130216081. Friday's trailing P/E ratio is 16.28 up from yesterday's P/E ratio of 16.21 (year ago it was 14.37); today's P/E estimate is 13.05 unchanged from Thursday' s P/E estimate of 13.05 (year ago it was 12.55) and today's dividend yield is 2.40 down from yesterday's dividend yield of 2.41 (last year it was 2.52). The Dow's all-time high was 14,865.14 on April 11, 2013. The 12 year low close for the Dow was on March 9, 2009 when it fell to 6,547.05.

Friday's Dow Jones Industrial Average closing numerator was 1,935.67 down 0.01   from Thursday's closing numerator of 1,935.68. This is the sum of all 30 closing prices. A short cut to the Dow numerator is to multiply the closing Dow by the Divisor. Now, if you divide the Dow numerator change for today by the divisor (0.130216081) you get the change in today's Dow. A dollar increase or decrease in a Dow stock results in a $7.68 change in the Dow Index.

The average closing price (the closing numerator divided by 30) of Friday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $64.52cents  uunchanged    from Thursday's average of $64.52. 4/12/13 Friday 4:11  pm MarketWatch by Kate Gibson says U.S. stocks finished fractionally lower Friday to break a streak of record-setting-high days as they pared steep losses following weak retail sales and consumer confidence data earlier in the session. The Dow Jones Industrial Average slipped 0.08 point to close at 14,865.06. The S&P 500 shed 4.52 points, or 0.3%, to close at 1,588.85, with energy and materials stocks dragging the most. The Nasdaq Composite Index fell 5.21 points, or 0.2%, to close at 3,294.95. For the week, the Dow Industrials finished 2.1% higher, with the S&P 500 up 2.3% and the Nasdaq advancing 2.8%.

Dow Jones Industrial Average: The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed Thursday at 14,865.14 up 62.19 or 0.42% from Wednesday's close of 14,802.24. For the year the Dow is up 13.44.%. Of the Dow components 26 gained and 4 declined. The biggest gainer dollar-wise was Chevron up $1.31 and percentage-wise was Pfizer up 2.21%. The biggest decliner dollar-wise and percentage-wise was Hewlett-Packard down $1.42 or 6.34%.

NYT pB7 "Market climbs higher as jobless claims slip" by Reuters says the stock market rose for a 4th straight day as positive data on the labor market and an encouraging retial outlook eased recent concerns about economic growth.

AJC pA13 "Dkow now up 13% for year" by AP says the market's record setting rise up 13%, the S&P up almost 12% and Nasdaq up 9.3%.

4/11/13 Thursday 4:06 pm MarketWatch by Lynn Mandaro says U.S. stocks rallied Thursday, again lifting the S&P 500 /quotes/zigman/3870025 SPX +0.36% and the Dow Jones Industrial Average /quotes/zigman/627449 DJIA +0.42% to new record closes, after a more-than-forecast drop in jobless claims and some better results from retailers. The Dow average gained 62.90 points, or 0.4%, to 14,865.14. The S&P 500 /quotes/zigman/3870025 SPX +0.36% gained 5.64 points, or 0.4%, to 1,593.37.
