http://www.dowjonesmonitor.com/

Post No. 2,129  The following is brought to you by Intellivest Securities Research, Inc. Toward the end of this Blog is a list of the Dow 30 current CEOs, and a ranking of the Dow 30 components by market capitalization as of April 1, 2013 and recent Dow 30 components' SEC filings as of April 1, 2013.

A read of the print editions of Monday's Barron's & Investor's Business Daily, the Sat/Sun combined issues of each of the Wall St. Journal & Financial Times, Sunday's & Saturday's New York Times &  Atlanta Journal Constitution  yielded the following stories about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 component companies and the Dow with stories about the Dow aggregated first and then items about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 companies presented alphabetically, followed by a separate table of Dow component's symbol and Friday's stock prices and related data in alphabetical order.

Dow Jones Industrial Average: The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed Friday at 14,565.25 down 40.86 or 0.28%  from Thursday's close of 14,606.11. For the year the Dow is up 11.15%.  For the week the Dow was down 0.09%. The Of the Dow components 12   gained and 18 declined. The biggest gainer dollar-wise  and percentage-wise was Boeing up $1.22 or 1.44%. The biggest decliner dollar-wise  and percentage-wise was IBM down $1.90 or 2.14%.

IBD pB 8 "Stocks dig big hole early, then backfill much of loss" by Paul Whitfield says stock indexes opened with ugly gap down moves Rri but patched over much of the damage as Friday's action was down in rising volume & the current outlook is an uptrend under pressure.

WSJ pB5 "Stocks rattled by ugly jos report" by Jonathan Cheng says Friday's disappointing US jobs report is the latest crack in a shaky global recovery and a test of will for investors looking to climb aboard a rally that has pushed stock benchmarks to new highs.

FT p11 "Investors' defensive stance hits materials and techs" by Anora Mahmudova says US stock indieces recovered some of the early losses Fri but recorded the steepest weekly declines this year after disappointing jobs data raised concerns that fed budget cuts are beginning to affect the economy.

Sat. NYT pb6 "Jobs data cements a bad week for the S&P 500" by AP says weak data on jobs tripped up Wall St on Fri capping the worst week of the year for the S&P and throwing cold water on optimism that the national was finally poised for a sustained recovery.
As of the open of the market on Monday the current divisor for the Dow Jones Industrial Average found at page B6  of Saturday's Wall St. Journal is 0.130216081. Monday's opening trailing P/E ratio is 15.87 down from Friday's P/E ratio of 15.92 (year ago it was 14.62); Monday's P/E estimate is 13.05 up  from Friday' s P/E estimate of 12.95 (year ago it was 12.55) and Monday's  dividend yield is 2.44 up   from Friday's dividend yield of 2.43 (last year it was 2.51). The Dow's all-time high was 14,622.01 on April 2, 2013. The 12 year low close for the Dow was on March 9, 2009 when it fell to 6,547.05.

Friday's Dow Jones Industrial Average closing numerator was 1,896.66 down 5.29    from Thursday's closing numerator of 1,901.95. This is the sum of all 30 closing prices. A short cut to the Dow numerator is to multiply the closing Dow by the Divisor. Now, if you divide the Dow numerator change for today by the divisor (0.130216081) you get the change in today's Dow. A dollar increase or decrease in a Dow stock results in a $7.68 change in the Dow Index.

The average closing price (the closing numerator divided by 30) of Friday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $63.2 down 18  cents from Thursday's average of $63.40. The median closing price of Friday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $59.90   (DIS/UNH) up 12 cents from Thursday's median closing price of $59.78. The lowest volume was Travelers and the highest volume again was Bank of America.

If Friday morning before the market opened you had purchased 100 shares of each of the Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 shares (assuming you could buy fractional shares and assuming no transaction costs or dividends) and sold at the close you would have lost $529   ($190,195 - 189,666).
