http://www.dowjonesmonitor.com/

Post No. 2,218  The following is brought to you by Intellivest Securities Research, Inc. Toward the end of this Blog is a list of the Dow 30 curent CEOs, and a recent ranking of the Dow 30 components by market capitalization and recent Dow 30 components' SEC filings.

A read of the print editions of Tuesday's  Wall St. Journal,  Financial Times,  Investor's Business Daily, New York Times, USA Today,  Atlanta Journal & Constitution & Daily Report (Ga. - carries Bloomberg) yielded the following stories about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 component companies and the Dow with stories about the Dow aggregated first and then items about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 companies presented alphabetically, followed by a separate table of Dow component's symbol and Monday's stock prices and related data in alphabetical order.

Dow Jones Industrial Average: The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed Monday at 15,238.59 down 9.53 or 0.06% from Friday's close of 15248.12. For the year the Dow is up 16.29%. Of the Dow components 13 gained and 17 declined. The biggest gainer dollar-wise was McDonald's up $1.25 and percentage-wise was UnitedHealth up 1.77%.   The biggest decliner dollar-wise was  IBM down $1.26 and percentage-wise was Disney down 1.68%.

WSJ pC4 "Stocks waffle on quiet day" by Alexandra Scaggs says stocks closed in mixed territory and shrugged off a boost to the US's standing with one credit rating firm.

YT pB7 "Economic optimism leaves markets unimpressed" by AP says the S&P ratings agency showed improved expectations on Mon regarding the US economy but investors just yawned.

FT p22 "Apple falls after revealing its first mobile system revamp in six years" by Jason Abbruzzese says the jobs picture that came out Fri was in line with expectations and slightly better than the market had been fearing.  The Dow was helped by McDonald's which rose 1.3% after it reported same store sales that slightly beat estimates.

IBD pB2 "Stocks fight for directin but some leaders gain" by Vincent Mao says stocks bobbed & weaved to a norrowly mixed finish Mon after 2 prior days of nice gains.  Monday's action saw stocks end narrowly mixed as the current outlook is uptrend under pressure.

As of the open of the market on Monday the current divisor for the Dow Jones Industrial Average found at page C6   of  Tuesday's Wall St. Journal is 0.130216081. Tuesday's  trailing P/E ratio is 16.56 down from Monday's trailing P/E ratio of 16.66 (last year it was 13.68); today's  P/E estimate is 13.75 unchanged from Monday's  P/E estimate of 13.75 (year ago it was 11.75) and today's   dividend yield is 2.39 unchanged from yesterday's  dividend yield of 2.39 (last year it was 2.70). The Dow's all-time high was 15,409.39 on May 28, 2013. The 12 year low close for the Dow was on March 9, 2009 when it fell to 6,547.05.

Monday's Dow Jones Industrial Average closing numerator was 1984.35 down 1.20 from Friday's closing numerator of 1985.55. This is the sum of all 30 closing prices. A short cut to the Dow numerator is to multiply the closing Dow by the Divisor. Now, if you divide the Dow numerator change for today by the divisor (0.130216081) you get the change in today's Dow. A dollar increase or decrease in a Dow stock results in a $7.68 change in the Dow Index.

The average closing price (the closing numerator divided by 30) of Monday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $66.07 down 12 cents from Friday's average of $66.19. The median closing price of Monday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $63.71 (DIS/UNH) unchanged from Friday's median closing price of $63.71. The lowest volume was 3M and the highest volume again was Bank of America.

If Monday morning before the market opened you had purchased 100 shares of each of the Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 shares (assuming you could buy fractional shares and assuming no transaction costs or dividends) and sold at the close you would have lost $120 ( $198,555 - $198,435).

Monday MarketWatch 4:04 by Polya Lesova says U.S. stocks finished a choppy trading session little changed on Monday after Standard & Poor's Ratings Services revised its U.S. credit-rating outlook to stable from negative. The Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA -0.06% ended down 9.53 points, or 0.1%, to 15,238.59 and the S&P 500 index SPX -0.03% fell 0.57 point to 1,642.81. The Nasdaq Composite COMP +0.13% gained 4.55 points, or 0.1%, to 3,473.77.
