http://www.dowjonesmonitor.com/

Post No. 2,228  The following is brought to you by Intellivest Securities Research, Inc. Toward the end of this Blog is a list of the Dow 30 current CEOs, and a recent ranking of the Dow 30 components by market capitalization and recent Dow 30 components' SEC filings.

A read of the print editions of Monday's Barron's,  Investor's Business Daily, Wall St. Journal, Financial Times,   New York Times, USA Today, Atlanta Journal & Constitution &amp Daily Report (Ga. - carries Bloomberg) yielded the following stories about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 component companies and the Dow with stories about the Dow aggregated first and then items about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 companies presented alphabetically, followed by a separate table of Dow component's symbol and Friday's stock prices and related data in alphabetical order.

Dow Jones Industrial Average: The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed Friday at 15070.18 down 105.9 or 0.70% from Thursday's close of 15176.08. For the year the Dow is up 15.00%.  For the week the Dow is down177.94 or 1.17% from last Friday's close of 15248.12. Of the Dow components 4 gained, Johnson & Johnson was unchanged and 25  declined. The biggest gainer dollar-wise  and percentage-wise was Verizon up 43 cents or 0.85%. The biggest decliner dollar-wise  and percentage-wise was American Express down $2.24 or 2.98%.

WSJ pB4 "Stocks sink amid jitters about Fed" by Matt Jarzemsky says US stocks slumped extending their losses for the week as sluggish economic readings & jitters ahead fo the coming week's Fed Reserve meeting kept buyers at bay.

IBD pB8 "Stocks dip as trade fades; Fed's two meeting looms" by Paul Whitfield says stocks rallied in the first half hour of trade Fri but then reversed lower to a negative finish as Friday's action was down in declining trade and the current outlook is a confirmed uptrend.

Sat. AJC pA10 "Economic reports hit stocks" by AP says disappointing reports about the US economy pushed the stock market lower on Fri.

As of the open of the market on Monday the current divisor for the Dow Jones Industrial Average found at page C4 of Monday's Wall St. Journal is 0.130216081. Monday's trailing P/E ratio is 16.47 down from Friday's  trailing P/E ratio of 16.58 (last year it was 14.07); Monday's P/E estimate is 13.62 down from Friday's P/E estimate of 13.75 (year ago it was 12.05) and Monday's  dividend yield is 2.42 up from Friday's dividend yield of 2.41 (last year it was 2.66). The Dow's all-time high was 15,409.39 on May 28, 2013. The 12 year low close for the Dow was on March 9, 2009 when it fell to 6,547.05.

Friday's Dow Jones Industrial Average closing numerator was 1962.38 down 13.79 from Thursday's closing numerator of 1976.17. This is the sum of all 30 closing prices. A short cut to the Dow numerator is to multiply the closing Dow by the Divisor. Now, if you divide the Dow numerator change for today by the divisor (0.130216081) you get the change in today's Dow. A dollar increase or decrease in a Dow stock results in a $7.68 change in the Dow Index.

The average closing price (the closing numerator divided by 30) of  Friday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $65.41 down 46  cents from Thursday's average of $65.87. The median closing price of Friday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $63.80 (DIS/UNH) down 42 cents from Thursday's median closing price of $64.22. The lowest volume was Travelers and the highest volume again was Bank of America.

If Friday morning before the market opened you had purchased 100 shares of each of the Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 shares (assuming you could buy fractional shares and assuming no transaction costs or dividends) and sold at the close you would have made $1,379 ( $197,617 - $196,238).

Friday MarketWatch 4:18 by Kate Gibson says U.S. stocks fell on Friday, chalking up a third weekly loss in four, with investors on guard ahead of next week’s monetary-policy decision by the Federal Open Market Committee.“We didn’t get the pullback in May when we thought we would, so it looks like June is giving us some of that,” said Andrew Fitzpatrick, director of investments at Hinsdale Associates Inc. A day after Wall Street rallied on thinking the Federal Reserve would continue record-low interest rates, investors took a cautious stance on the final session of a losing week. The FOMC holds a two-day policy gathering next week, with Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke due to hold a news conference Wednesday, after the FOMC decision.Wall Street is tracking economic reports for clues as to whether the economy is strong enough to withstand the much-talked of tapering of Fed stimulus, specifically its $85 billion in monthly bond purchases.“The economy is not where it needs to be for the Fed to cut off stimulus, with inflation coming in under their target and with the jobs report still not being really strong, it still leaves room for the Fed to maintain its policies,” said Fitzpatrick. After this week’s global volatility, attention will remain focused on the next FOMC meeting and whether the Federal Reserve will indicate any change to its quantitative-easing policy. On Friday, the Fed was advised to step carefully in scaling back from its monetary easing by the International Monetary Fund, which also cut its U.S. growth outlook for next year to 2.7% from the 3% projected in April. After climbing 29 points and falling 131, the Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA -0.70%  lost 105.90 points, or 0.7%, to 15,070.18.Down 1.2% for the week, the Dow on Friday made its fourth consecutive triple-digit move.A day after its best session since Jan. 2, the S&P 500 index SPX -0.59%  retreated 9.63 points, or 0.6%, to 1,626.73, with financials pacing the losses that included all but one of its 10 major sectors. The S&P 500 finished with a 1% weekly drop. The Nasdaq Composite COMP -0.63%  shed 21.81 points, or 0.6%, to 3,423.56, leaving it off 1.3% from last Friday’s close.Decliners ran ahead of advancers on the New York Stock Exchange, where nearly 626 million shares traded. Composite volume neared 2.9 billion.Energy prices rose, with crude-oil futures CLN3 +1.23% climbing to highs not seen since September, up $1.82 at $97.85 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Gold also gained, with futures GCQ3 +0.85%  rising $9.80 to close at $1,387.60 an ounce.
