http://www.dowjonesmonitor.com/

Post No. 2,214  The following is brought to you by Intellivest Securities Research, Inc. Toward the end of this Blog is a list of the Dow 30 current CEOs, and a recent ranking of the Dow 30 components by market capitalization and recent Dow 30 components' SEC filings.

A read of the print editions of Monday's Barron's & Investor's Business Daily, the combined Sat/Sun issues of the Wall St. Journal & Financial Times; Saturday's  New York Times & Atlanta Journal & Constitution yielded the following stories about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 component companies and the Dow with stories about the Dow aggregated first and then items about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 companies presented alphabetically, followed by a separate table of Dow component's symbol and Friday's stock prices and related data in alphabetical order.

Dow Jones Industrial Average: The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed Friday at 15,248.12 up 207.5 or 1.38% from Thursday's close of 15040.62. For the year the Dow is up 16.36%.   For the week the Dow was up 132.55 or 0.09% from last Friday's close of 15115.57. Of the Dow components 26 gained and 4 declined. The biggest gainer dollar-wise and percentage-wise was Boeing up $2.73 or 2.74% The biggest decliner dollar-wise was Merck down 41 cents and percentage-wise was 1.01%.

IBD pB8 "Stocks rise again, though volume declines further" by Paul Whitfield says stocks took long strides up Fri but the steps came in lighter volume for the 2nd straight day.  Friday's action was up in declining volume and the current outlook is an uptrend under pressure.

WSJ pB1 "Dow soars as Fed fears fade" by Mat  Jarzemsky says the Dow posted its 2nd biggest gain of the year as a closely watched employment report soothed worres the the Fed will pull back on its easy money policies.

Sat. NYT pB1 "Eyes on Fed, Wall St ends higher on job dta" by nathaniel Popper says stocks, bonds and currencies around the globe had a chaotic week as investors reassessed how Bernanke viewed the economy and whether those views would prompt the central bank to pull back on the bond buying that has supported markets in recent years.

FT p13 "Buyback buoys Walamrt as S&P 500 advances" by jason Abbruzzese says Walmart investors were buoyed by news of a freshs ahre buyback program.  Home Depot rose 1.9%, United Tehcnologies rose 1.9% and Boeing was up 2.7%.  AT&T and Merck led the laggards, down 1% & 0.8% perspectively.

Sat. AJC pA6 "Stocks jump after US jobs report" by AP says steady growth in hiring last month sent the stock market sharply higher Fri.  US employerss added 175,000 jobs in May, more than the 170,000 forecast.

As of the close of the market on Friday the current divisor for the Dow Jones Industrial Average found at page B6   of Saturday's Wall St. Journal is 0.130216081. Friday's closing trailing P/E ratio is 16.66 up from Friday's opening   trailing P/E ratio of 16.43 (last year it was 13.83); Friday's closing P/E estimate is 13.75 down from Friday's opening P/E estimate of 14.05 (year ago it was 11.75) and Friday's closing  dividend yield is 2.39 down from Friday's opening dividend yield of 2.42 (last year it was 2.70). The Dow's all-time high was 15,409.39 on May 28, 2013. The 12 year low close for the Dow was on March 9, 2009 when it fell to 6,547.05.

Friday's Dow Jones Industrial Average closing numerator was 1985.55 up 27.02 from Thursday's closing numerator of 1958.53. This is the sum of all 30 closing prices. A short cut to the Dow numerator is to multiply the closing Dow by the Divisor. Now, if you divide the Dow numerator change for today by the divisor (0.130216081) you get the change in today's Dow. A dollar increase or decrease in a Dow stock results in a $7.68 change in the Dow Index.

The average closing price (the closing numerator divided by 30) of Friday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $66.19 up 91 cents from Thursday's average of $65.28. The median closing price of Thursday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $63.71 (DIS/UNH) up $1.18 cents from Thursday's median closing price of $62.53. The lowest volume was 3M and the highest volume again was Bank of America.

If Friday morning before the market opened you had purchased 100 shares of each of the Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 shares (assuming you could buy fractional shares and assuming no transaction costs or dividends) and sold at the close you would have made $2,702 ( $198,555 - $195,853).

Friday MarketWatch 4:00 by Kate Gibson says U.S. stocks rallied on Friday, with Wall Street clearing weekly losses to tally its first weekly gain in three, as May payrolls rose more than forecast.
