The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed Wednesday at 15112.19 down  0.91% from Tuesday's close of 15318.23. Of the Dow components all 30  declined.   The biggest decliner dollar-wise was IBM down $2.93  and percentage-wise was down 2.54%.

As of the open of the market on Wednesday the current divisor for the Dow Jones Industrial Average found at page C6 of Wednesday's Wall St. Journal is 0.130216081. Wednesday's trailing P/E ratio is 16.74 up from yesterday's trailing P/E ratio of 16.59 (last year it was 14.15); today's P/E estimate is 13.62 unchanged from Tuesday's P/E estimate of 13.62 (year ago it was 12.05) and today's dividend yield is 2.38 down from yesterday's dividend yield of 2.40 (last year it was 2.60). The Dow's all-time high was 15,409.39 on May 28, 2013. The 12 year low close for the Dow was on March 9, 2009 when it fell to 6,547.05.

Wednesday's Dow Jones Industrial Average closing numerator was 1967.85 down 26.83  from Tuesday's closing numerator of 1994.68. This is the sum of all 30 closing prices. A short cut to the Dow numerator is to multiply the closing Dow by the Divisor. Now, if you divide the Dow numerator change for today by the divisor (0.130216081) you get the change in today's Dow. A dollar increase or decrease in a Dow stock results in a $7.68 change in the Dow Index.

The average closing price (the closing numerator divided by 30) of   Wednesday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $65.59 down 90 cents from Tuesday's average of $66.49. The median closing price of Wednesday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $64.30   (DIS/UNH) down $1.19 from Tuesday's median closing price of $65.49. The lowest volume was TRV  and the highest volume again was Bank of America.

If Wednesday morning before the market opened you had purchased 100 shares of each of the Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 shares (assuming you could buy fractional shares and assuming no transaction costs or dividends) and sold at the close you would have lost   $2,683 ($199,467 - $196,785 ).

Wednesday MarketWatch 4:03 by Kate Gibson says U.S. stocks fell sharply and Treasury yields surged as Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke said the central bank may scale back its bond purchases depending on the economic outlook. "The market was looking for some kind of commitment of no tapering, and he (Bernanke) is saying the labor market is improving," said Joe Heider, principal at Rehmann Financial in Westlake, Ohio. Extending its streak of triple-digit moves into a seventh session, the Dow Jones Industrial AverageDJIA -1.35% fell 206.04 points, or 1.4%, at 15,112.19. The S&P 500 index SPX -1.39% lost 22.88 points, or 1.4%, to 1,628.93. The Nasdaq Composite COMP -1.12% declined 38.98 points, or 1.1%, to 3,443.20. A read of the print editions of Wednesday's Wall St. Journal, Financial Times, Investor's Business Daily, New York Times, USA Today, Atlanta Journal & Constitution &amp Daily Report (Ga. - carries Bloomberg) yielded the following stories about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 component companies and the Dow with stories about the Dow aggregated first and then items about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 companies presented alphabetically, followed by a separate table of Dow component's symbol and Tuesday's stock prices and related data in alphabetical order.

Dow Jones Industrial Average: The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed Tuesday at 15318.23 up 138.38 or 0.91% from Monday's close of 15179.85. For the year the Dow is up 16.9%. Of the Dow components 28 gained and 2 declined. The biggest gainer dollar-wise was IBM up $1.83 and percentage-wise was GE up 2.36%. The biggest decliner dollar-wise was Merck down 5 cents and percentage-wise was Microsoft down 0.1%.

Tuesday's Dow Jones Industrial Average closing numerator was 1994.68 up 18.02 from Monday's closing numerator of 1976.66. This is the sum of all 30 closing prices. Tuesday MarketWatch 4:20 by Kate Gibson says U.S. stocks rallied on Tuesday, with a two-day advance wiping out last week’s losses, as Wall Street gave an advance thumbs up to the upcoming Federal Reserve monetary-policy announcement.“You can bet your last dollar, [Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke] is going to try to assure the markets that the Federal Reserve is not going to taper anytime soon,” said Hugh Johnson, chairman of Hugh Johnson Advisors, referring to the timing and pace of potential reduction in asset purchases by the Fed, which is currently buying $85 billion in bonds each month.The Federal Open Market Committee begun its two-day meeting on Tuesday, with a monetary-policy announcement and Bernanke’s news conference due on Wednesday.
