6/28/13 Fri am Home Depot Severs Ties to Paula Deen

http://www.dowjonesmonitor.com/

Post No. 2,248  The following is brought to you by Intellivest Securities Research, Inc. Toward the end of this Blog is a list of the Dow 30 current CEOs, and a recent ranking of the Dow 30 components by market capitalization and recent Dow 30 components' SEC filings.

A read of the print editions of Friday's Wall St. Journal, Financial Times, Investor's Business Daily, New York Times, USA Today, Atlanta Journal & Constitution & Daily Report (Ga. - carries Bloomberg) yielded the following stories about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 component companies and the Dow with stories about the Dow aggregated first and then items about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 companies presented alphabetically, followed by a separate table of Dow component's symbol and Thursday's stock prices and related data in alphabetical order.

Dow Jones Industrial Average:The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed Thursday at 15024.49  up 114.35 or 0.77% from Wednesday's close of 14910.14. For the year the Dow is up 14.65%. Of the Dow components 28 gained and 2 declined. The biggest gainer dollar-wise was Boeing up $2.42 and percentage-wise was Hewlett-Packard up 3.17%. The biggest decliner dollar-wise and percentage-wise was Johnson & Johnson down 28 cents or 0.32%.

WSJ pC4 "Blue chips 3 peat as Fed fears ease" by chris Dieterich says stocks rose on the heels of upbeat economic reports and as Fed Res officials emphsized that easy money policies will be in place until the economy is back on its feet.

NYT pB11 "Shares rise on gains in jobs, and bond yields fall" & AJC pA17 "Third day of rising stocks" by AP says the Dow rose for a 3rd straight day on good news.  Consumer spending rose 0.3% last month & incomes increased 0.5%, the most in 3 months.

IBD pB2 "Stocks rise for 3rd day in a row; volume mixed" by Paul Whitfield says the current outlook is still a correction.

As of the open of the market on Friday the current divisor for the Dow Jones Industrial Average found at page C5 of Friday's Wall St. Journal is 0.130216081. Friday's trailing P/E ratio is 16.42 up from yesterday's trailing P/E ratio of 16.30 (last year it was 13.89); today's P/E estimate is 13.35 unchanged from Thursday's P/E estimate of 13.35 (year ago it was 12.15) and today's dividend yield is 2.43 down from yesterday's dividend yield of 2.45 (last year it was 2.67). The Dow's all-time high was 15,409.39 on May 28, 2013. The 12 year low close for the Dow was on March 9, 2009 when it fell to 6,547.05.

Thursday's Dow Jones Industrial Average closing numerator was 1956.43 up 14.89 from Wednesday's closing numerator of 1941.54. This is the sum of all 30 closing prices. A short cut to the Dow numerator is to multiply the closing Dow by the Divisor. Now, if you divide the Dow numerator change for today by the divisor (0.130216081) you get the change in today's Dow. A dollar increase or decrease in a Dow stock results in a $7.68 change in the Dow Index.

The average closing price (the closing numerator divided by 30) of   Thursday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $65.21 up 49 cents from Wednesday's average of $64.72. The median closing price of Thursday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $64.91 (DIS/UNH) up 91 cents from Wednesday's median closing price of $64.00. The lowest volume was Travelers and the highest volume again was Bank of America.

If Thursday morning before the market opened you had purchased 100 shares of each of the Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 shares (assuming you could buy fractional shares and assuming no transaction costs or dividends) and sold at the close you would have made $1,489 ($195,643 - $194,154).

Thursday MarketWatch 4:01 by Kate Gibson says U.S. stocks surged on Thursday, extending the Dow Jones Industrial Average's longest winning streak since April, on upbeat economic data and reiterations from Federal Reserve officials that monetary policy depends on the economic outlook. "I guess this goes to show that we've had our correction and it's off to the races now," said Bruce McCain, chief investment strategist at Key Private Bank. The Dow industrials DJIA +0.77% were up 114.35 points, or 0.8%, at 15,024.49. The S&P 500 index SPX +0.62% rose 9.94 points, or 0.6%, to 1,613.2. The Nasdaq Composite COMP +0.76% climbed 25.64 points, or 0.8%, to 3,401.86.
