http://www.dowjonesmonitor.com/

Post No. 2,236  The following is brought to you by Intellivest Securities Research, Inc. Toward the end of this Blog is a list of the Dow 30 current CEOs, and a recent ranking of the Dow 30 components by market capitalization and recent Dow 30 components' SEC filings.

A read of the print editions of  Friday's Wall St. Journal, Financial Times, Investor's Business Daily, New York Times, USA Today, Atlanta Journal & Constitution &amp Daily Report (Ga. - carries Bloomberg) yielded the following stories about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 component companies and the Dow with stories about the Dow aggregated first and then items about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 companies presented alphabetically, followed by a separate table of Dow component's symbol and Thursday's stock prices and related data in alphabetical order.

Dow Jones Industrial Average:  The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed Thursday at 14758.32  down  353.87 or 2.34%  from Wednesday's close of 15112.19. For the year the Dow is up 12.62%. Of the Dow components all 30  declined.    The biggest decliner dollar-wise was 3M down $2.80  and percentage-wise was Disney down 3.67%.

WSJ pA1 "Turmoil exposes global risks" by Tom Lauricella, Katy Burne says worries about China & the Fed's plans rattled global markets for 2nd day sending US stocks to their biggest loss this year and hammering bonds and many commodities.

FTp1 "Sell off raises fears of fresh phase of fin'l turbulence" by Ralph Atkins, Michael Mackenzie says a sell off in equities, bonds & commodities Thurs fuelled fears that the world is entering a fresh phase of fin'l turbulence as the US Fed prepares to ease its large scale asset purchases.

NYT pA1 "Global sell off shows fed reach beyond the US" by Nathaniel Popper says tumbling stock prices around the world shows how reliant the global economy has become on the monetary policies of the Fed Reserve.

IBD pB2 "Stocks stagger, undercut lows, signaling correction" by Paul Whitfield says stocks plunged thurs taking the nasdaq & S&P 500 below their 50 day lines & kicking the market into correction, the new current outlook.

As of the open of the market on   Friday the current divisor for the Dow Jones Industrial Average found at page C5 of Friday's Wall St. Journal is 0.130216081. Friday's trailing P/E ratio is 16.13 down from yesterday's trailing P/E ratio of 16.51 (last year it was 13.85); today's P/E estimate is 13.62 unchanged from Thursday's P/E estimate of 13.62 (year ago it was 12.05) and today's dividend yield is 2.47 up from yesterday's dividend yield of 2.41 (last year it was 2.65). The Dow's all-time high was 15,409.39 on May 28, 2013. The 12 year low close for the Dow was on March 9, 2009 when it fell to 6,547.05.

Thursday's Dow Jones Industrial Average closing numerator was 1921.77  down 46.08  from Wednesday's closing numerator of 1967.85. This is the sum of all 30 closing prices. A short cut to the Dow numerator is to multiply the closing Dow by the Divisor. Now, if you divide the Dow numerator change for today by the divisor (0.130216081) you get the change in today's Dow. A dollar increase or decrease in a Dow stock results in a $7.68 change in the Dow Index.

The average closing price (the closing numerator divided by 30) of   Thursday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $64.06 down $1.53 cents from Wednesday's average of $65.59. The median closing price of Thursday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $62.89   (DIS/UNH) down $1.41 from Wednesday's median closing price of $64.30. The lowest volume was TRV  and the highest volume again was Bank of America.

If Thursday morning before the market opened you had purchased 100 shares of each of the Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 shares (assuming you could buy fractional shares and assuming no transaction costs or dividends) and sold at the close you would have lost   $4,608 ($196,785 - $192,177 ).

Thursday MarketWatch 4:10 by Polya Lesova says U.S. stocks ended with steep losses on Thursday, hit by fear that the U.S. Federal Reserve will start scaling back its bond-buying program later this year. The Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA -2.34% tumbled 353.87 points, or 2.3%, to 14,758.32. In percentage terms, it was the Dow's worst day since Nov. 7, 2012, the day after the U.S. presidential election. The S&P 500 index SPX -2.50% fell 40.73 points, or 2.5%, to 1,588.19, its worst day since November 2011. The Nasdaq Composite COMP -2.28% declined 78.57 points, or 2.3%, to 3,364.63.
