Post No. 1,270 The following is brought to you by Intellivest Securities Research, Inc. Toward the end of this Blog is a list of the Dow 30 current CEOs, and a ranking of the Dow 30 components by market capitalization and Dow 30 components' SEC filings in each case as of September 23, 2011.

A read of the print editions of Monday's Barron's, The Wall St. Journal, Financial Times, USA Today, The New York Times, Atlanta Journal Constitution & Daily Report (Ga. - carries Bloomberg) yielded the following stories about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 component companies and the Dow with stories about the Dow aggregated first and then items about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 companies presented alphabetically, followed by symbol and Friday's stock prices and related data.

Dow Jones Industrial AverageThe Dow Jones Industrial Average closed Friday at 11,644.49 up 166.36 or 1.45% from Thursday's close of 11,478.13. For the week the Dow is up 541.37 points or 4.88% from last Friday's close of 11,103.12. For the year the Dow is up 0.58%. Of the 30 Dow components 28 gained and 2 declined. The biggest gainer dollar-wise was IBM $190.53 +3.71 1.99% 5,085,392 NYSE and percentage-wise was Caterpillar CAT $84.09 +2.65 3.25% 7,198,446 NYSE. The biggest decliner dollar-wise was American Express AXP $46.1 -0.23 0.5% 9,210,780 NYSE and percentage-wise was Bank of America BAC $6.19 -0.03 0.48% 200,184,005 NYSE.

WSJ pB4 "Blue Chips get back into the black" by Brendan Conway says the Dow surged 4.9% this week to turn positive for the year as does NASDAQ. Stocks jumped Fri., sending stock indexes to their highest close since early Aug.

As of the open of the market Monday, the current divisor for the Dow Jones Industrial Average found at page C6 of Monday's Wall St. Journal is 0.132129493. Monday's trailing P/E ratio is 12.98 up from Friday's trailing P/E ratio of 12.80 (year ago it was 14.88); Monday's P/E estimate is 11.70 up from Friday's P/E estimate of 11.25 (year ago it was 13.25), and today's dividend yield is 2.66 down from yesterday's dividend yield of 2.70 (last year it was 2.55). The Dow's all-time high was 14,164.53 on Oct. 9, 2007. The 12 year low close for the Dow was on March 9, 2009 when it fell to 6,547.05.

Friday's Dow Jones Industrial Average closing numerator was 1,538.58 up 21.98 from Thursday's closing numerator of 1,516.60. This is the sum of all 30 closing prices. A short cut to the Dow numerator is to multiply the closing Dow by the Divisor. Now, if you divide the Dow numerator increase for today by the divisor (0.132129493) you get the increase in today's Dow. A $1 change in the price of any DJIA stock = a 7.57 change in the average.

The average closing price (the closing numerator divided by 30) of Friday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $51.29 up $0.74 from Thursday's average closing price of $50.55. The median closing price of Friday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $41.21 (DD/VZ) up 0.77 from Thursday's median closing price of 40.44.
