http://www.dowjonesmonitor.com/

Post No. 2,676 The following is brought to you by Intellivest Securities Research, Inc. Toward the end of this Blog is a list of the Dow 30 current CEOs, and a   recent ranking of the Dow 30 components by market capitalization and a summary of recent Dow 30 components'  SEC filings.

A  read of the print editions of  Thurday's Wall Street Journal, Financial Times,  Investor's  Business Daily, New York Times, USA Today, Atlanta Journal & Constitution & Daily Report (Ga. - carries Bloomberg) yielded the following stories about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 component companies and the Dow with stories about the Dow aggregated first and then items about Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 companies presented alphabetically, followed by a separate table of Dow component's symbol and Wednesday's  closing   stock prices and related data in alphabetical order.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average: The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed  Wednesday at 16633.05 down 42.32 or 0.25% from Tuesday's close of 16675.50. For the year the Dow is up 0.34%. Of the Dow components 10  gained, Pfizer was unchanged and 19  declined.  The biggest gainer dollar-wise  was DuPont up 25 cents and percentage-wise was Intel up 0.64%. The biggest decliner dollar-wise was IBM down $1.70 and percentage-wise was  McDonald's down 1.03%.

WSJ pC4 "After run up stocks dip back into the red" by Alexandra Scaggs says stocks pulled back after 2 straight climbs to records for the S&P.

IBD pB2 "Leaders resist small drop; market internals improve" by David Saito-Chung says stocks caught their breath wed, a day after the Nasdaq posted a follow through to end a relatively mild correction.  Wed's action saw modest declines in mixed vol & the current outlook is a confirmed uptrend.

FT p21 "Wall street" by Eric Platt says markets drifted ahead of key economic reports today which include a 2nd reading of 1Q GDP as well as pending home sales & initial jobless claims.

AJC pA9 "Small retreat as bonds rally" by AP & same story at NYT pB7 "Treasury debt forges higher as equities fade"  says the S&P's fell back from record levels on Wed as the bond market cont'd to rally.

As of the open of  the market on Thursday the current divisor for the Dow Jones Industrial Average found at page C5 of  Thursday's Wall St. Journal is 0.15571590501117.  Thursday's trailing P/E ratio is 16.27 down from Wednesday's trailing P/E ratio of 16.31 (last year it was 16.71).  Thursday's P/E estimate is 14.81 unchanged from Wednesday's P/E estimate of 14.81 (year ago it was 13.75) and Thursday's dividend yield is 2.19 up from Wednesday's dividend yield of 2.18 (last year it was 2.37). The Dow's all-time high was 16,715.44 on May 13,  2014. The 12 year low close for the Dow was on March 9, 2009 when it fell to 6,547.05.

Wednesday's Dow Jones Industrial Average numerator is 2590.05 6.59 down  from  Tuesday's   numerator of 2596.64.  This is the sum of all 30 closing prices. A short cut to the Dow numerator is to multiply the closing Dow by the Divisor. Now, if you divide the Dow numerator change for today by the divisor (0.15571590501117) you get the change in today's Dow. A dollar increase or decrease in a Dow stock results in a $6.42 change in the Dow Index.

The average closing price (the closing numerator divided by 30) of  Wednesday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $86.34 down 21 cents from Tuesday's  average closing price of $86.55.  The median closing price of  Wednesday's Dow Jones Industrial Average was $79.89   (PG/HD) unchanged from Tuesday's median closing price of $79.89 (HD/PG). The lowest volume was  Travelers and the highest volume was Cisco.

If  Wednesday morning before the market opened you had purchased 100 shares of each of the Dow Jones Industrial Average 30 shares (assuming you could buy fractional shares and assuming no transaction costs or dividends) and sold at the close you would have lost $659  ($259,664 - $259,005).
